Wellington’s history will be shared through live music in Singing Our Stories as part of the Museum of Wellington City & Sea’s 3rd Thursday programme. On Thursday 15 May at 6.30pm, Andy Laking and his band will cover songs from his latest album inspired by the Museum’s stories.
Andy Laking has been touring internationally since 2001 when he co-founded the highly acclaimed Irish folk group, Gráda. Since that time he has toured in 26 different countries, performing in excess of 1800 shows.
Speaking about his music, Andy explains, “The songs for my new album have all been inspired by Wellington. They cover a timeline from the 1800s to the present day, creating a moving picture of the city.”
Public Programmes and Learning Manager Rachel Ingram says, “The Museum of Wellington City & Sea’s new 3rd Thursday programme is an exciting step for the Museum. The late night openings mean that the Museum’s taonga will be available to view after work hours with an added bonus of a variety of free and live entertainment. Coming up later this year in 3rd Thursday is Chamber Music and even a special spooky stories programme.”
