MOTAT is celebrating Mother’s Day in classic 1950s style, taking guests back to the decade dubbed the Golden Age of Television where women stole the show. With vintage-themed activities and live performances setting the scene right from the get go, there’s plenty to keep the Mum and the whole family entertained on Sunday 13 May.
Channelling the styles of the 1950s designers Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their best swing skirts and polka dots. Here they can grab a front row seat at the Glory Days fashion show for a dose of fifties style inspiration before taking a stroll through the picturesque Village and Regent Street to browse the vintage market. With over 30 stalls of beautiful goods on offer, there’s bound to be trove of treasures to explore.
Mum will feel like one of the glamorous screen icons of days gone by, perhaps Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn, as the Beauty School Dropouts treat her to a free fifties-style makeover in the pop-up beauty parlour. The rest of the family can join in the fun by paying a visit to the tattoo parlour for their vintage designed “I love Mum” temporary tattoos to mark the special occasion.
Think sock hops, ballet pumps, big hair and even bigger hoop skirts as the mood is set around the Museum with its heritage buildings, craft activities, photo booths and much more. Visitors can brush up their dance moves with the free go-go dance lessons or have a laugh while giving the hula hoop a whirl.
If relaxing is more their scene then guests can sit back and be serenaded by the dulcet tones of The Lindy Tops, tap their toes to the Rockabilly vibes of Boom Boom Deluxe or revel in bluegrass favourites from Hot Diggity. It’s everything you need to bring back floods of memories from the good old days!
A Peachy Keen Mother’s Day is a nostalgic day out for the whole family to enjoy. Everyone is invited to join MOTAT in celebrating the wonderful women in our communities while highlighting how far domestic technology, fashion and lifestyles have progressed since the 1950s.
