ADAM PORTRAITURE AWARD 2016 – Call for Entries!

Pick up your brushes and get painting! Entries are now open for the biannual Adam Portraiture Award run by The New Zealand Portrait Gallery. Artists from around the country are invited to submit a portrait of a New Zealander in the painted medium by 9 December 2015.

The winner of the competition and recipient of a $20,000 cash prize will be selected by international Judge Mette Skougaard, Director of the Museum of National History in Frederiksborg, Denmark – which holds an amazing collection of contemporary and historical portraiture.

An additional prize of $2,500 will be awarded for the runner up alongside $2,500 for the Peoples Choice, awarded at the end of the Adam Award exhibition. All prizes are generously funded by the Adam Foundation.

Entries can now be sent digitally through the New Zealand Portrait Gallery’s website, nzportraitgallery.org.nz/portraits-online/adam-portraiture-award/entry-form making it quicker and easier for artists all over the country to enter the competition. Full competition rules can also be found online.

The last Adam Award, held in 2014 was won by 23 year old Henry Christian-Slane who’s intimate portrait of his cousin Tim was described as ‘talented, honest and direct’ by the international judge. Other works in the final selection included figures such as Ralph Hotere, Sir John Trimmer and Lorenzo Mario Riccardo Bresolin.

The winner will be announced on the 23 February 2016 coinciding with a public exhibition at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery of the finalists, open 24 February – 29 May 2016.
The New Zealand Portrait Gallery will have on show over then next month, some of the past winners from the award, including Henry Christian-Slane’s Tim. Come down to Shed 11 to get some inspiration and pick up an entry form!
