Capital E’s April School Holidays features a variety of frivolity and full-on experiences for Wellington’s families and children. From Tuesday 18 - Saturday 29 April Capital E will showcase their latest theatre shows, digital experiences and creative play space all of which keep the holidays filled with creative goodness.
For children ages 2+
The Wellington region embraces Capital E’s theatre shows as Songs of the Sea kicks off at Southward Car Museum in Kāpiti for families with littles ones on Thursday 20 & Friday 21 April, before heading to Expressions Whirinaki Arts & Entertainment Centre in Upper Hutt on Saturday 29 April. Upside Down at E Central on 4 Queens Wharf is Capital E’s latest wacky space that plays host to a new topsy turvy universe for children of all ages to explore, experiment and construct in new ways. Workshops from improv to craft also feature in the space to get kids learning, creating and brains whizzing during the holidays. See the Capital E website to view workshop dates and times. For children ages 7+
Te Papa’s Soundings Theatre will also be hosting much loved Capital E show, An Awfully Big Adventure during ANZAC weekend Sunday 23 – Tuesday 25 April. Ideal for 7+ years. Tickets can be booked online at capitale.org.nz
Te Papa’s Hīnātore Learning Lab have teamed up with Capital E and New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington are teaming up to deliver a new programme in Trash to Tunes on Wednesday 19 April. Participants will explore the science of sound and make their own up-cycled musical instrument at Te Papa to head back to Capital E’s MediaLab to produce their own song. Ideal for 9+ years. Young people with fiery tongues and quick wits will be the first to moot their point in OnTV Studio’s latest show Moot Point on Tuesday 18 April. Participants will make a live recorded talk show debating important matters. There will be heat, there will be surprise, there will be an outraged host and security might intervene. After all, it’s reality television! The final show will be uploaded to the Capital E YouTube channel. Ideal for 10+ years. Bookings essential and available online at capitale.org.nz
The Digital Days will introduce children to our digital studios, giving them two digital experiences in one day on Thursday 20 & 27 April. Ideal for ages 8-10. Bookings essential and available online at capitale.org.nz
For children aged 11+
Capital E Digital will be offering amazing digital and movie making experiences in the MediaLab and OnTV Studio. The Movie Studio Experience on Wednesday 26 April equips kids with camera, editing, acting, directing and Foley producing skills to create their own mini movie. Ideal for 11+ years. MediaLab doesn’t disappoint with two wicked workshops for Wellington’s young people. Budding designers with a flair and fancy for future tech will have the opportunity to get their crash courses in
Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality on Tuesday 18 April from 10am. From designing a world to experimenting in new technology, participants will have an epic and full on experience with the latest creative technology. Ideal for 11+ years. Bookings essential and available online at capitale.org.nz
