A+ Productions will be presenting their ARENA exhibition in Auckland this July.

The independent production company will play host to an assortment of obscure, yet talented, artists, performers and likewise creative minds in a show all and tell-all event. Viewing this collection of eclectic works will be fellow artists as well as industry professionals.

For one night only, these hopeful groups and individuals will be given the opportunity to network and interact – making connections that may be key to the success of future projects.

However, for all of this to happen, funding is required. Director, Joselyn Khor and her team have launched a campaign on crowd funding site, Kickstarter, to give the event some footing.

The funding target of $2,500 may seem small, but with just two weeks remaining before the campaign closes, time is of the essence “Kickstarter works on an all-or-nothing structure. If we don’t reach our goal, this event to network, will be a lost opportunity.” Khor exclaims.

ARENA is about giving grassroots creative artists the opportunity to showcase their talents to a knowledgeable and appreciative audience.

By putting her face out there, she hopes to encourage people from all walks of life, ethnic groups, performance and creative genres – to participate.

The event has since evolved from what was initially supposed to serve as the premiere of a web-series called “The Ghost.”

However, Khor - who also directed the web series - saw an opportunity to create a platform for all creatives needing exposure.

“Talking to other artists, it appears they’ve experienced the same challenges. Wanting to be seen, but with little resources to make things happen," she explains.

The exhibition will more than certainly be a proving ground for many hopeful artists, young and old. Whether the night represents a success or failure for these people will be determined on the day, but win or lose, Khor urges them to share their passion.

“Don’t hold your artwork, dance choreography, showreels, script ideas, fashion designs, passion for creating, your voice. Don’t hold it back anymore!”

Although the event will be tailored to the artists, members of the public are also encouraged to attend.

The exhibition represents not just an opportunity for the artists, but for locals to witness the birth of a potential creative star in the making.

In many respects it follows the format of a talent show, only more up close and personal. In any case, ARENA will be a spectacle for all to enjoy.
