ART IN THE DARK DESIGN COMPETITION POWERED BY PHILIPS
Auckland’s premiere community light art event, Art in the Dark, is pleased as punch to present the Art in the Dark Philips Lighting Design Competition, powered by Philips Lighting with support from AUT.
The competition gives tertiary students from across New Zealand the opportunity to come up with a concept for an amazing light installation using Philips lighting products, including their energy efficient LED lights and light bulbs. You come up with something we love, and we’ll give you the products, platform and your name in lights.
The top 5 entrants + 1 wild-card voted for by the public will get to present their light installation concept to a panel of judges. The judges will decide the top 3 entrants – and these winners will have the opportunity to turn their dreams into reality by creating their stunning light installation to be on display at Art in the Dark 2012 for 20,000+ visitors to enjoy.
Art in the Dark is a free, public, illuminated, Art Festival hosted in Western Park, Ponsonby, Auckland on the evenings of Friday 9th and Saturday 10th November 2012. We challenge participants to be innovative with their design concepts. Ideas we hope to see include; light installations; interactive projects; spatial projects; landscape designs; video works; artworks; performances; kinetic structures and sculptures.
Enter via the Art in the Dark website competition entry form.
Entrants must submit a paragraph to explain their art installation concept, provide sketches/photos/designs of an art installation or artwork using Philips energy-efficient light bulbs and LEDs as the principal materials. See the Philips light products available online at www.artinthedark.co.nz.
This competition is open to all tertiary and university students in New Zealand. Entries will be judged on imagination and/or artistic concept, environmental friendliness, innovative use of Philips energy-efficient light bulbs and production feasibility.
The top 5 designs will receive an Art in the Dark certificate of merit. The top 3 designs will be announced as the competition winners, and will have the opportunity to create their artwork for Art in the Dark 2012.
Experts will work with the three winners to workshop and develop their designs for exhibition and Philips will provide the energy-efficient light bulbs and a range of related products for production.
