Artstation’s latest exhibition, ‘Sum of its parts’, opens on Tuesday 13 March and showcases recent artworks from three recent Elam Masters graduates.
Artists, Carolin Casey, Gerry Copas and Sarah Williams, are interested in the act of art making being part of the final artwork. For them there is no separation between the two.
Within their paintings and drawn photographs, they include evidence of their process where art becomes the 'sum of its parts’.
Carolin Casey combines drawing and photographic techniques. “I unfaithfully render drawings from photographs, which are then scanned to become digital photographs. This method references both the photographic, and industrial land use processes of re-making,” says the artist.
Gerry Copas paintings consist of contemporary text and language. Copas investigates and paints the visual construction of conversation.
Sarah Williams’ paintings incorporate the accidental and controlled qualities of paint. “Where the intentional and unintentional can co-exist to create and uneasy harmony“, says the artist.
‘The sum of its parts’ is on display until Saturday, 31 March.
