Artspace welcomes Alex Davidson as the 2012/2013 Curatorial Assistant.
Alex comes from an academic and artistic background, having recently completed a conjoint degree in Fine Arts (Hons) and Philosophy at The University of Auckland. She is an active member of the Auckland art community, and has been involved in both artist-run and commercial galleries, in particular as co-curator of Window gallery at The University of Auckland.
Alex says “It is a great privilege to be able to work on facilitating projects at Artspace during the coming year. Artspace is a key platform for developing and nurturing local artistic thought, as well as cultivating rich and interesting dialogues with international practitioners and institutions. I am excited to be involved in these processes and to contribute in whatever way I can.”
Alex is the eighth person to be awarded this unique and sought after role. Previous Artspace Curatorial Assistants have gone on to work as curators, critics and writers in highly regarded national and international institutions.
Established in 2004, the Curatorial Assistant Programme (formerly called the Curatorial Internship) offers budding curators the unique opportunity to gain experience in, and contribute to Artspace’s curatorial programme. Alex will work with Artspace Director Caterina Riva alongside leading local and international artists and curators. Her one-year of training will culminate in an exhibition curated and coordinated by Alex and mounted at Artspace.
Artspace gratefully acknowledges Dame Jenny Gibbs for her support of the Curatorial Assistant programme.
