Bach Musica NZ is celebrating NZ Music Month by offering special discounts and complimentary tickets for secondary schools and organizations for young people to their exciting and innovative May concert

Sun 26 May | 5pm | Auckland Town Hall

On 26 May we endeavour to highlight the importance of music for young people and the ways in which music can raise awareness of key social issues. It is a concert about the past, the present and the future and will take us from the late 18th century to ancient Greece and back to our modern day and age.

Witness the world premiere of NZ composition The Birds, a Singspiel by Andrew Perkins and Rachel Le Rossignol based on an ancient Greek anti-war play, including a pre-concert talk with the composer. Perkins’ work addresses current global issues through the voices of The Birds, aimed at young people, and calling for everyone to come together to shape the future.

This concert is for the next generation of musicians which is why we are thrilled to be featuring Ashani Waidyatillake, the stunning 14-year-old winner of the 2018 Wallace Junior National Piano Competition, who will be performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 2

We are also very excited to welcome mezzo-sopranos Jessica Wells and Dilys Fong, tenor Harry Grigg, and baritone Angus Simmons. All will be conducted by the formidable Rita Paczian.

Bach Musica NZ is offering special discounts for secondary schools, youth and environmental organizations, as well as complimentary tickets for music students at low decile schools in Auckland. For more information please contact Zarine via zarine@bachmusica.com.
