NZTrio present
TWINE

NZTrio bring us the last performances of its 2018 season this November with Twine, to be presented in Auckland, New Plymouth, Greytown, and the Coromandel in a variety of intimate settings.

This year’s series has so far delivered on its promise of deep connections and unexpected relationships, revealing layers of familial, romantic, and stylistic links between an eclectic array of composers across the series and within each concert. Twine will complete the experience with a pairing of two deeply satisfying romantic heavyweights Schumann and Brahms with an intoxicating 3-minute opening by minimalist Philip Glass (USA), a rollicking smile-inducing work from Matthew Hindson (AUS), and a wildly creative brand new commission from New York based Kiwi composer, Celeste Oram.

Each programme has presented a new line-up of guest musicians, offering a fresh dynamic with top talent arriving from all corners of the globe to join Ashley Brown (cello) in exhilarating NZTrio combinations every time. Amalia Hall (violin) and Somi Kim (piano) join Ashley for all Twine and TwinePieces (shorter version) concerts.

TWINE
GLASS • SCHUMANN • HINDSON • ORAM • BRAHMS
Ashley Brown (cello) with guest musicians Amalia Hall (violin) and Somi Kim (piano)

Twine knits together the linear sway from Philip Glass (USA) and the refreshing new pluck and spin from Matthew Hindson (AUS), with a new commission from Celeste Oram (NZ). Robert Schumann (GER) and Johannes Brahms (GER) deliver lashings of romantic sentimentality, outpourings from their lives entwined.
