Helensville, Auckland: April 15th, 2013 - The Lions Club of Helensville invites accomplished and emerging artists, with a connection to New Zealand, (either through residence, work or school), to submit digital files of original art for consideration for the H’Art of Helensville National Street Banner Competition. All media are welcome, with no limitation to technique or subject matter, as long as the bi-monthly themes are adhered to. Independent Jurors not affiliated with the Lions Club of Helensville will select up to 15 works of art. Each winning design will be reproduced and featured in the 2013 H’Art of Helensville Banner Exhibition. Artists selected will receive credit on both banner and in printed materials related to the exhibition. Additionally they will be asked to submit a brief statement about the inspiration for the select piece for press use.
Themes:
Each 2 month period will focus on a different theme reflecting New Zealand
NB. The keywords are only provided to help and inspire. The themes are not limited to these words, please think outside the box.
Sporting Recreation - July, August 2013 - Closing date: June 1st 2013
Keywords - bike riding, horse riding, hunting and fishing, local sports teams, skydiving, hot pools.
Agriculture and Forestry - September, October 2013 - Closing date: August 1st 2013.
Keywords - native forest, fruit growing, milling, livestock, wine industry.
Transportation - November, December 2013 - Closing date October 1st 2013.
Keywords - river and sea transportation, cars, trucks, cycling.
Cultural Influences - January, February 2014 - Closing date December 1st. 2013.
Keywords - Maori, European, Asian, Pacific Islands ect.
Heritage - March, April 2014 - Closing date February 1st 2014.
Keywords - heritage buildings, early settlement activities, period costumes, early transportation and agriculture.
Category Finals - May, June 2014 - Top 3 finalists from each of the previous categories go into the finals for the major prize of $2500.
Banner Specifications:
Finished image size is 1400 cm high x 800 cm wide so entries must maintain a proportional scale. There will be a 400 cm deep panel below the image containing the sponsor’s logos.
Entry fee is $20.00 per adult per entry, $10 per youth (16 and under) per entry, a maximum of 2 entries bi monthly.. Before submitting, please ensure that your art work is reproducible at the specified dimensions at an adequate resolution, no exceptions. The Lions Club of Helensville will work with artists to obtain the proper file sizes for reproduction if selected. However, all submissions should reflect the size specifications in order to be considered or they will automatically be rejected. The Lions Club of Helensville is responsible for banner printing cost and banner installation.
Submission Specifications:
An entry is comprised of up to 2 JPEG images at 72 ppi measuring (h) 177.8mm x (w)127mm. All files should be numbered and named with the artist's last name and first name.
Ex.: 01Lastname_Firstname.jpg and submitted via a special form at

Please note that no additional support materials will be accepted at this time. All entries must be original and executed within two years of entry date. Incomplete and/or late entries will not be reviewed.
Judging:
Judging of submissions will be based on JPEG files only. JPEG files submitted must represent actual work. The Lions Club of Helensville reserves the right to refuse to exhibit any work it deems unacceptable due to significant departure from JPEG representation or inappropriate content. Submitted and accepted artwork will not be used for any other purpose. An independent juror not affiliated with the the Lions Club of Helensville, will select the 15 works of art anonymously.

Exhibition:
The H’Art of Helensville is a bi-monthly annual art exhibition. Winning banners will be hung throughout Helensville’s Urban Core for a period of two months.
