Terry Pratchett’s Carpe Jugulum is the sequel to Wyrd Sisters that Wellington Repertory performed a couple of years ago – Magrat has become Queen of Lancre and there is a new junior witch in the coven. It falls to them to battle the family of vampires from the Uberwald who are intent on taking over the kingdom and establishing a more modern vampire era.
The witches battle the vampires, mind to mind, with a bit of help from the locals – this involves cunning, holy water, lemons, sharp stakes, scythes, a minimal amount of neck biting and a cup of tea.
This is a new breed of vampires with coloured waistcoats, big hair, new dress sense and radically new christian names, are educated that sunshine can’t hurt them and garlic is just another member of the allium family.
Who will win the tussle …?
