Children’s Book ‘Toot’ Makes a Splash
‘Toot – The World’s Tiniest Whale!’ has made a splash on the New Zealand children’s picture book scene, even before its launch. In less than eight days, this charming story from first-time author Joy Ramirez has generated 117 pre-orders and $4,805 in pledges.
Joy says, ‘Launching my book ‘Toot’ through the Spark My Potential crowd-funding website was an amazing way to get people excited and talking about the book well before launch. In just over one week we’re already at 97% of my initial goal to raise $4,975.’
‘Now I’m trying to reach my next goal to raise $10,500 to cover the total costs for illustration and graphic design, as I’m self-publishing my very first book.’
Auckland author Joy says, ‘this crowd-funding campaign gave me an easy way to build a community and database of people who are interested in my book. It’s nice to form a relationship with supporters as they’ll watch my project’s progress.’
‘Spark Foundation has very generously chosen to dollar-match donations to my project. Dollar matching is happening right now, but it only lasts a few days! If you pledge $25 you will receive one beautiful paperback book with a personalised message. If you pledge $100 you receive two books, and fund another two books to go to low decile schools around New Zealand.’
If you love impossibly adorable, micro-sized whales, no bigger than your thumb – make sure you check out ‘Toot’ right now!
‘Toot – the World’s Tiniest Whale’ will be available for purchase online on 1 July (see www.facebook.com/tootthewhale for details), and will be available in-store from 14 September 2015.
