Organised by Christie’s African and Oceanic Art and Post-War & Contemporary Art departments in Paris, 'OCEANIA NOW: Contemporary Art from the Pacific' is the first dedicated auction of works by contemporary artists from the Pacific hosted by this prestigious institution. It also represents a unique opportunity for the French and international market to engage with some of the most important emerging and established artists from the Pacific today.
Working in collaboration with Alison Bartley and John Gow, two of the most influential and established gallerists in New Zealand, Christie’s has selected 36 works from 14 contemporary artists from Māori and Pākehā whakapapa as well as hailing from the Cook Islands, Rarotonga, Sāmoa, Niue and other nations within the Pacific.
Participating artists include: Shane Cotton, Brett Graham, Lyonel Grant, Nikau Hindin, Yuki Kihara, Roger Mortimer, Fiona Pardington, John Pule, Lisa Reihana, Mahiriki Tangaroa, Kelcy Taratoa, John Walsh, Dame Robin White, and Cora-Allan Wickcliffe.
The exhibition is free and open to the public from 11 - 26 February, while the online auction runs from 11 February - 01 March 2022.
