KIWI COMIC SARAH HARPUR RELEASES KATE BUSH PARODY ONLINE
Makers of award-winning web series 101 Dates re-team for Wuthering Heights parody
Kiwi comedian Sarah Harpur has taken her love of “comic genius” Kate Bush one step too far. At least, that’s what you might be left thinking after watching Harpur’s take on the iconic song Wuthering Heights and her parody of the equally infamous music video: {http://www.youtube.com/harpursbizarre}
Currently performing her new stand up show Immortal Combat in the NZ International Comedy Festival after a successful run at the Dunedin Fringe, where it won Best Comedy, Harpur’s take on the song focuses on a different book entirely. “I thought if Kate Bush can have a hit record by basically summarising the plot of Wuthering Heights, I could do the same with The Da Vinci Code”, she said.
The parody music video was directed by filmmaker Chaz Harris and edited by Scott Milligan, the same team behind Harpur’s hit web series 101 Dates which won 7 Outstanding Achievement awards at the Los Angeles Web Series Festival in March 2011. 101 Dates won awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, Writing, Directing, Editing, Cinematography, Guest Actor and included a nod for Harpur as Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
In a recent interview with Rip It Up magazine, Harpur was asked who she thought was the greatest comedian alive and replied, “Kate Bush. The best thing is she doesn’t even know that she is a comic genius. Any time I am having a bad day I watch ‘Wuthering Heights. Best comedy song ever!”. Coincidentally, Kate Bush will release her first album since 2005’s Aerial called Director’s Cut on May 16th 2011; a collection of revised selected tracks from her 1989 and 1993 albums The Sensual World and The Red Shoes.
Sarah Harpur’s Immortal Combat is showing nightly from 10pm at The Fringe Bar in Wellington from today, May 11th until Saturday May 14th 2011. www.ticketek.co.nz
