Bus Stop, Auckland - This very exciting project was devised specifically for graduates of the 2012 class of The Actors Program. On from Wed 20 till Sunday 24 Feb. Equity tickets $15. TAPAC 2012 graduates and Equity members Jess Sayer (national performers committee) and Anoushka Klaus have co-written "Bus Stop" with Samuel Christopher. All TAP grads act in this ensemble play charting the lives that pass through an Auckland bus stop, and the secrets which are unravelled following a young man's death. The play is being developed to tour high schools to bring awareness to youth suicide and the effect it has on those left behind in the wake of death.
Dolly Mixture, Auckland - Award winning Equity member Yvette Parsons stars in Dolly Mixture, only on for three nights this week - Thursday 21 till Saturday 23 February. Psychic siblings Crispin and Misty-Lou Melville enjoy a close bond, and a family membership of the Rototuna Doll Collectors Association; but when uncanny happenings herald an eery presence, the Melville's turn to Satan. 18 Content may offend.
Promise and Promiscuity, Auckland - Equity member and New Zealand's own global comedienne, Penny Ashton puts on a new musical at TAPAC from 1-3 March. Follow the fortunes of Miss Elspeth Slowtree as she battles literary snobbery, her mother's nerves and Cousin Horatio, all armed with a superior wit, blushing countenance and generally being quite bright. you know. for a girl. Balls will be attended, crosses will be stitched and manners will be minded, all with not one ankle in sight.
Elevator, Auckland - This all-Equity show is directed by Equity board member Cameron Rhodes and features Equity members Michele Hine, Jess Sayer and Lauren Gibson. Put on by Junket Theatre was founded in 2012 by Jess Sayer, Lauren Gibson and Simea Holland. The trio met at The Actors' Program, a new initiative started in Auckland in 2012. Junket Theatre was born because its founders saw a need for new New Zealand work with a voice that pushes boundaries and asks questions of its audiences. On at The Basement from 20-23 February. The Guilt Sniffer, Auckland - Team M&M are delighted to announce the New Zealand premiere of their new play starring Equity member Marion Shortt alongside a talented cast of Equity members Matt Baker, Michelle Blundell and Ben van Lier. A comedy about the fraught relationship between straight-laced Detective Wright and her flamboyant partner, who can smell emotions. To solve her father's murder, Wright must overcome her obsession with evidence and trust the nose of Dr Robert MacBride aka The Guilt Sniffer. In the NZ Herald 2012 Theatre Highlights, Paul Simei-Barton described The Pantry Shelf as "...a hilarious piece of madcap comedy from enterprising Kiwi partnership Team M&M."
Mrs Van Gogh, Auckland - on as part of Fringe and starring Equity members Mike Lowe and Gina Timberlake, and written and directed by Equity member Geoff Allen. Opens: Feb 27th -Mar 2nd at 8pm, Musgrove Studio. Equity members $15. Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting in his lifetime. He is now the most reproduced artist in the world. All because one woman refused to destroy the hundreds of paintings left to her. All because she spent years taking them to galleries to get attention. Kings of the Gym, - Directed by Equity performers committee member Peter Elliott and starring Equity member John Leigh. On until March 2 at The Maidment. It's the new school term and Hautapu High is set to rocket up Metro's Best Schools ranking. The only thing standing in the way is a rearguard action led by the old-school, politically incorrect but hugely popular head of the PE department, Laurie O'Connor who still believes kids should learn that sport is about winning! Big-hearted, bitingly satirical and laugh-out-loud funny, Kings of the Gym is the perfect summer comedy.
