An
exhibition of varied work including print, textile and photography called
‘Fabricated Narratives’ will be shown at the Takatu Studio (201a Takatu
Road, Matakana) (on the road towards Tawharanui Regional Park, near to the
crossing of the Omaha-Matakana cycle path) from Saturday 11th to Sunday
19th May (10am -4pm daily) along with your chance to meet the
artists and buy the work.
Artists
Alysn Midgelow-Marsden, Helene Carpenter, Di Halstead and Marianda Twydell bring
a variety of artistic practices, a variety of origins and a variety of
inspirations and influences to ‘Fabricated Narratives’. The works have
travelled far and been shown at venues across Britain and Ireland before
returning to New Zealand. All the artists live near to Matakana but enjoy an
international reach with their work. This will be the first time that the
finished works have been shown in New Zealand. Displaying their art at the
Takatu Studio gives them the chance to say thank you to the local community,
many of whom were very helpful during the development of the exhibition.
The theme of the exhibition is ‘fabricated narratives’ or
fabricated stories for objects. Whether historically accurate or playfully
inventive, each work in the exhibition is part of a story. The works directly
relate to the regular practice of the participants and the exhibition additionally
includes collaborative practices, works and a film about the artists.
