The Spring exhibition at the Estuary Arts Centre focuses on Glass and runs from 29 August to 22 September. Curator and exhibitor Inge Chappell has invited glass artists from the Auckland region whose work is complimentary yet varied and who show a high level of skill and discipline in their own glass art practice.
Glass artists include Kari Beale, Frances Hanson, John Hanson, Alistair Mead, Dermot Kelly, Todd Sheridan, Roselle Amoore, Brian Chrystall and Di Tocker.
The exhibition features sculptural works, wearable jewellery pieces, glass objects and an experimental Plasma Sculpture, lamp worked with borosilicate glass filled with noble gases.
On Sunday 1 September Inge Chappell will be working live demonstrating glass bead-making techniques to make hollow beads, encased florals, murrini and twisties and how to apply various surface decorations.
Alistair Mead will demonstrate glass blowing methods illustrating off-mandrel sculpting with borosilicate glass.
These demonstrations will take place during the day from 10am to 3pm at Estuary Arts in the Education Room.
Gold coin donation.
Off-site glass workshops will be available through Inge Chappell's studio in Puhoi, bookings are essential.
