A new series of geeky kids' books will soon be hitting shelves around the world thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign from Auckland parents Andrew and Sarah Spear.

On Tuesday morning the My Little Geek crowd-funding campaign reached its goal and now that the core funding has been achieved, the couple are shifting the campaign towards supporting the community with a buy-one-give-one approach. For every $10 backers give above the standard reward amount, a book will be donated to a school in need.

"Over the course of the campaign we heard from schools and kindergartens that really wanted to stock the books but just didn't have the budget for it. We thought we could do something about that," says Andrew.

The couple is hoping to deliver hundreds of books to lower decile schools in the coming weeks and plan to make the buy-one-give-one model a permanent part of their own online store.

If you haven’t heard of My Little Geek, it is series of books which focus on teaching young kids about numbers, letters and shapes in a fun geeky way that also appeals to the parents.

"It's so exciting that we're going to be able to make the full series now, people have been asking for them for years!" says Andrew.

"And if we can make it more fun for parents to read to their kids then inevitably the kids are going to take more from it too. So why not teach children to count using time travelling zombies and holographic dodecahedrons?"

To find out more about the books, get your hands on your own copy or to support a school in need; visit their Kickstarter page at www.kck.st/mylittlegeek - there's still one week left to make a difference!
