Hawke’s Bay’s most hotly anticipated cultural event is returns for its third season in just four weeks time. This year, the festival is rolling out its most extensive programme so far, with more than 70 performances from 52 acts in eight venues across the region.

The Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent will form the heart of the festival, centrally located in Havelock North – a thriving hub of cafes, restaurants, wineries and boutique shopping.

Artists and companies from Switzerland, Ireland, Canada and Australia will join forces with the best of local and national talent in what promises to be a spectacular 13 days of arts and culture.

International offerings include two multi-award winning, physical theatre troupes showcasing their artistry alongside some of Australia’s best cabaret and children’s comedy shows.

Performing exclusively at the festival is Australian circus sensation Casus with their breathtaking new show Driftwood. Other exclusive offerings include A Prudent Man, from Australian theatre company, Lab Kelpie. The award-winning political comedic thriller was an audience and critical hit at the 2016 Melbourne Fringe Festival, eclipsing more than 400 productions to win the coveted People’s Choice Award.

The festival is also rich in local talent, with at least eight acts featuring current or former Hawke’s Bay performers. Homegrown acts include former Havelock North musician and APRA Silver Scroll winner, Thomas Oliver who is making a big name for himself on the international stage.

Complementing the extensive programme is a Readers and Writers Festival, featuring 18 inspiring conversations with authors, artists, advocates and thinkers, including Lizzie Marvelly, David Trubridge and Nicky Hager.

The second week of the festival is timed to coincide with the start of the October school holidays, giving families the perfect excuse to visit this stunning region.
