In November 2013 Heaven Bent Gospel Choir presented ‘March to Freedom’, a concert of freedom songs commemorating the 50th anniversary of the historic Civil Rights era and the March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr delivered his powerful ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.  The concert was sold out and so enthusiastically received that the choir will perform the show again at the Titirangi Music Festival on Sunday 6th April.

The concert features freedom songs from the American Civil Rights movement, as well as linking narratives and images from this unique period of history.

“Our aim is to bring this important epoch alive in a creative and inspiring way, demonstrating how powerful songs have been in helping to change the tide of history,” says choir spokesperson Alexandra Whitham.

“We hope our audiences will not only be moved by this strong  and beautiful music,  but that they will also see how relevant the Civil Rights movement was, and still is, to human rights struggles in many other parts of the world.”

If you saw the show back in November and enjoyed it, but your friends missed it, be sure to tell them to see this special performance that played to a full house with great reviews. Perhaps its a good time to forward this email on to them now.  Short sound samples from the show are attached along with the poster.
