FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Iconic Wellington masterpiece to host African inspired showcase
Auckland, New Zealand - October, 21 2014 - Africa on My Sleeve is pleased to announce that they will be hosting their annual fashion showcase at The Opera House, Wellington on Saturday 29 November.
Boasting an impressive stage – bigger than the Sydney Opera house and London’s West End, the Opera House is well known for hosting outstanding performances including opera, drama, concerts and ballets. It is the perfect venue for Africa on My Sleeve to showcase the artistic flair and creativity of the designers.
Show Founder Makanaka Tuwe says the venue is an excellent fit for the showcase’s vision.
“Fashion is the form of art that we use to present our individuality. When we sat down to discuss plans for the showcase, we wanted a venue that reflected our vision as a team. A vision to offer an audience something different, innovative and exciting. The Opera House will definitely offer us that theatrical approach to fashion”.
After a successful intimate 2013 showcase that introduced Aucklanders to African inspired fashion, the organisation decided to continue with the vision of the showcase. This year attendees will be in a for a world-class production, emerging designers inspired by Africa from around the globe and an exciting artistic journey.
With the theme ‘Cradle of Creativity’, Africa on My Sleeve presents an artistic interpretation of the diversity of Africa’s 54 countries.
“We wanted to present an awareness of Africa as the incubator and basket of creativity in the fashion industry. We believe that African inspired fashion presents an opportunity to engage, educate and excite audiences due to the artistic and historical references that it portrays,” says Makanaka Tuwe
Tickets to the showcase start at $30.00 with $10 of each purchase being donated to the Africa on My Sleeve Project.
Tickets go on sale on Monday 15 September.
