Enjoy is thrilled to welcome Toi Māori Education and Audience intern Hōhua Thompson (Te Arawa, Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti, Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Awa).

During his five-month, full time internship at Enjoy, Hōhua will research and develop educational programmes and audience engagement initiatives and contribute to Enjoy’s exhibitions and other gallery programming.

Hōhua joins us from Tāmaki Makaurau, where he is completing his MFA part-time at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design. Prior to joining Enjoy, Hōhua worked for Youth Horizons Trust as a Specialist Youth Worker, providing him with experience engaging with youth and using mahi toi as a therapeutic pathway.

A practicing artist, Hōhua has exhited at DEMO art space in Tāmaki Makaurau and Toi Māori Gallery in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Hōhua’s practice combines traditional Māori forms such a whakairo and tukutuku with modern materials and processes to communicate stories from his own whakapapa, and to examine how these stories may apply to a wider Māori community.

Enjoy is pleased to be a host organisation for the Toi Māori 2019 Māori Arts Internship programme. This opportunity offers emerging Māori arts professionals hands-on experience in arts organisations and mentorship and support to develop career pathways in the arts.
