Come join the fun and hear what 24 young St Francis de Sales School students have created on a collaborative music and songwriting project facilitated by Make Foundation - a newly registered charity working to take creative projects to refugee communities displaced by Syria’s civil war.

Just Want Home-Wellington has involved 24 students from years 4-8 working collaboratively every school day since mid-September, as well as rehearsing and recording material during the school break.

The students have worked on the theme, What Is Home?

Saad Jolakh, a 23-year old Syrian who fled the war and is now living in Wellington, spoke to the students about his experience of living under siege in Aleppo, Syria’s largest and one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.

“Saad’s talk helped the students understand what it means to escape one’s home because of war and they’ve drawn on this in their lyrics,” says project facilitator and Make Foundation co-founder Michel Alkhouri.

As well as showcasing the students’ efforts this concert is fundraising to deliver a similar project to Syrian refugee children living in Lebanon.

“It is a unique opportunity to connect New Zealand school students with some of the world’s most vulnerable children,” says St Francis de Sales principal Steve Douglas.

Hope to see you there.
