Capital E and Fifi Colston set to wow young participants at winter holiday workshops.

The July school holiday is the perfect time for young people to experiment, design, create and be wowed as Capital E and some special guests share tricks of the trade for A Capital Idea.

Groups of young people will be creating Chilean inspired carnival masks, experiencing a High School Horror in a deserted school and working with some well-known Wellingtonians for two weeks from Monday 15 July.

Whether following in the musical footsteps of Kimbra and Toni Gibson at the Music Video Factory or securing your place on one of four special workshops by World of Wearable Art designer, Fifi Colston, this collection of creative workshops is ideal for 6-16 year olds this winter holiday.

“Fifi Colston will be running uniquely themed workshops in Carter Observatory and Museum of Wellington City & Sea,” says Events Producer, Derek Simpson. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for young Wellingtonians to meet and work with an award-winning designer.”

Fifi Colston is a finalist and award winner over eighteen years with eighteen entries in The World of Wearable Arts and has worked in the New Zealand film industry as a costumier and illustrator. She is a published junior fiction novelist and children’s book illustrator and has shared her arts and crafts ideas on the Good Morning show. Fifi’s Capital E workshops coincide with the launch of her new book, Wearable Wonders, which is launched in July.

“Wearable Wonders is about how to find ideas, resources and inspiration,” Fifi explains. “It's for the young designer, their teachers, parents and caregivers. And that’s exactly what these workshops will do for a young audience.”

Budding explorers will get the chance to discover space with Wellington designer, Ian Hammond, at Carter Observatory, mapping out and creating solar system models to take home. There will also be workshops with Body FX, New Zealand’s largest specialFX make-up company, whose previous clients include Weta Workshop, Three Foot Six and Cirque de Soleil. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn from the best with A Capital Idea.
