Mahalski to exhibit new sculptures at NZ Art Show.

Wellington based artist Bruce Mahalski has created several new bone sculptures which can be seen at the New Zealand Art Show next week on 26th – 28th July, at the TSB Bank Arena, Queen’s Wharf, Wellington.

Mahalski’s unique and intricate works created from animal bones found on beaches and roadsides have been attracting attention both locally and internationally, including a feature article in the August 2013 issue of North and South magazine.

Bruce Mahalski is the leading pioneer in the art of three dimensional bone sculpture. His multi-layered compositions using hundreds or even thousands of found animal bones range from life-size replicas of machine guns to pieces evoking Pacific art styles and contemporary geometric forms. His background in biology and conservation gives each work the quality and depth of a top museum exhibit. Mahalski is a full time artist and art teacher who has been exhibiting professionally since 1996.

He has work in the Saatchi & Saatchi and James Wallace collections.

Bruce said, “Some people might consider it ghoulish to collect bits of dead animals but to me it isn’t about death – it’s about life. Like a sympathetic magician I hope that by possessing an animals bone a little bit of its life force will rub off onto the owner.”

Visitors to the art show are eligible to vote for artwork entered in the Signature Piece Art Award.
