WHERE: 1 Pekenham St, Viaduct WHEN: Wednesday, June 29th – and the last Wednesday of every month. FREE EVENT! Printable Reality proudly brings you “Live” @ the Library Bar, another amazing night of spoken word, music, comedy and entertainment. Join your host, Michelle Bolton for an evening of top local talent and experience our special guests and registered Open Mic at the cosiest and coolest spot in town! The Library Bar is the alternative Viaduct venue; book-lined walls, retro paintings, plush sofas and moreish Tapas; this unique and welcoming Bar is fast becoming a firm favourite amongst all who discover it. Set to expand with the blending of its funky neighbour The Dining Room, The Library Bar is excited to be able to offer Aucklanders a venue for unique events just like “Live at the Library Bar”. “Live” on the 29th of June is not to be missed with 2 very special guests joining us: Caitlin Smith has tirelessly and wholeheartedly devoted herself to music in Aotearoa. She describes her role as being ‘the underwire in NZ’s musical bra’, and being ‘a midwife’ to great songs and great voices. Coaching our top vocalists - from Anika Moa to Tourettes, Smith also regularly performs to loyal fans and Festival audiences, writes the column ‘Finding your own voice’ for New Zealand Musician magazine and fosters a community of songwriters through her coaching, spellbinding live performances, student nights, guest appearances and collaborations. A performance poet during her Selwyn College daze, she attained a Masters in Political Studies with First Class honours in the early ‘90’s. In 1997 they formed the dearly beloved and respected alt.jazz trio The Fondue Set. The Fondue Set’s ‘Stick a fork in it’ (1999) and ‘In a Blue Vein’ (2000) showcased Smith’s consummate abilities as a song interpreter being described by the Sunday News as having a voice “that imagination created”. In 2007 Creative NZ awarded Smith a new work grant to develop this current CD You have Reached your Destination. The premise for the project was to reveal the songwriting process. Ben Brown (Ngati Paoa, Ngati Mahuta) displays a marked propensity toward performance poetry, probably as the result of an overt desire to appreciate the sound of his own voice in the hope that others may share his apparent enthusiasm for it. His poetry has been published in various anthologies and Radio NZ and The Radio Network have recorded him. His work has also appeared on posters plastered from here to Baltimore. Ben Brown is a children’s author, poet, short story/non-fiction/script/freelance writer, though he has never quite been able to work out what the various distinctions are, so he refers to himself primarily as a writer. In 2006 he was joint winner in the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards for Best Picture Book.  As with every “Live” evening, the Open Mic section offers performers the opportunity to register for a 3-minute slot to share their music (acoustic), jokes, stories or poems after our guest musician but before our guest poet takes to the stage!
