New Zealand artist Bruce Mahalski is applying the finishing touches to a new artwork on a wall at Orchard Place, part of the Trinity Buoy Wharf arts complex at East London.
Painted on an old shop front the mural features colourful electric rays, viper fish, jelly fish, a whale, an electric eel, an angler fish and two special panels that are being painted to cover the broken windows.
This original and quirky artwork has already made a huge impact on an otherwise drab street and has attracted a massive amount of attention from visitors, residents and even the Metropolitan Police who were somewhat surprised the artist didn’t jump up and run away when they approached him.
Mahalski has painted many public murals in New Zealand, as well as producing sculptures, poster artwork, screen printing and photography across a variety of media.
He has also created and provided illustrations, children's books and educational activities for many different organisations including government departments, museums and conservation groups.
Bruce is the second artist to be invited to participate in the new arts programme that is funded by the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust in an initiative that promotes environmental consciousness through art.
