New Zealand hip hop and creative communities are uniting for Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop a major fundraiser across three cities on Sunday 10th August in support of a Wellington crew who lost their historic collection and personal belongings in a recent fire.
The simultaneous event at San Fran, Wellington, Black Note, Auckland and Studio 46, Hamilton is for Sara "Spex" Tamati, Andrew "Kerb" Wright, Tim "Ceap" Bremner, Peter "Truce Lee" Whitinui and Khan "Khanage" Wright .
They lost 95% of their belongings after a fire on Monday 23rd June in a French Door Factory in Mansfield St, Wellington ripped through their upstairs flat.
Long time DJ’s, artists, b-boys, collaborators and archivists in the hip hop community, their collections of original artwork, video footage, photos, vinyl and books were priceless records of over thirty years of local and international hip hop.
In response to this loss, and as a testament to what these people represent, an overwhelming number of top class performers and artists are stepping up for Can't Stop, Won't Stop to help raise money to get the four back on their feet.
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop in Wellington will feature performances from Scribe, Newtown Rocksteady, King Kapisi, Teremoana Rapley, Upper Hutt Posse, Alphabethead, Tipene, Make Music Aotearoa, Flowz, Chocolate Box Deluxe(Lisa Tomlins, Vanessa Stacey and DJ Ayesha), Juse1 & Kurst1, Stanley Pedigree, B-Ware, Lartral, Tony Buxton, Blakout, Jordan Turner and DJ's Gooda, Raw, Mel James, Lemon, Jayrasik, Omega B, Don Luchito, Apa, Huta, Aki, Jnr Ranks, Jaz, Mikki D and special guests. (2pm - 10pm $20 on the door)
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop in Auckland will feature an art auction (viewing from 5th August at Black Note) with pieces donated by Otis Frizzel, Jos Wheelan, Askew, Phat 1, Lady Diva, Yikes, Freak, Dcypher, Eric Orr, Owen Dippie, IKARUS, Lonnie Hutchinson, Michel Tuffery, Component, Elliot Francis Stewart, Ellis Aranga, Daniel Tippet.
There will be performances from Midnight Trips, Human Resource, Pakkzwun, Che Fu, DJ's Richie Mills (b-boy/b-girl set), Lo Key, DJ Furious, P-Money and more to be confirmed. (2pm-12am $20 on the door)
Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop in Hamilton will features performances from U-Knights, Kortaz, Hamilton Slamdown Poets, Cipher Divine Zulu's, Spell, Lo Quay, Imperious Dance Company, Spit Right (beatbox) plus local singers, dancers and rappers. (4pm-7pm $10 on the door) A big thank you to San Fran, Black Note, Studio 46, BaseFM, Radio Active, Whitireia NZ, Rough Peel Music, Atiawa, Radio Tainui, all the artists, businesses and the people that have volunteered their time and services.
