Museum of Wellington City & Sea has teamed up with Tip Top and members of the Richter City Roller Derby for the first in a series of Throwback Thursday fundraising events under the sails at Queens Wharf this Thursday lunchtime - part of its ‘’What Year Are You?’’ fundraising campaign.

From 12.30pm on January 29, Throwback Thursday will travel back to the 1930s when Tip Top opened the capital’s first milk bar.  For just $2 - or more, if people are feeling generous - Wellingtonians will be able to enjoy a delicious Tip Top ice cream served by members of the Richter City Roller Derby

Today, cafes and coffee culture are synonymous with Wellington; seventy years ago, it was the milk bar that could be found on every Wellington street.  Wellington’s first– located on the corner of Manners Street and Cuba Street - was also the birthplace of this country’s most iconic ice-cream company, with founders Albert Hayman and Len Malaghan going on to establish Tip Top.

The What Year Are You? campaign has been set up to raise money for the development of the Museum’s Attic space.
