South Island; Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin – September 2013
In the first week of September five leading period instrument musicians from the North andthe South Island will meet together for the first time for a special project;
“Music for a While” - a concert of Baroque music in authentic interpretation.
A rare chance to hear subtle beauty of period instruments in a vibrant atmosphere of churches which is the most suitable acoustic place for these instruments:
Baroque violin – Shelley Wilkinson (Auckland)
Baroque cello – Tomas Hurnik (Christchurch)
Theorbo – Jonathan Le Cocq (Christchurch)
Harpsichord – Douglas Mews (Wellington)
Voice – Pepe Becker (Wellington)
Enjoy music from famous baroque composers Händel, Purcell, Monteverdi, Gemininani, Frescobaldi and some not so famous but equally enticing.
After the concert the audience will have an exceptional opportunity to meet musicians and ask any questions about Baroque music and authentic interpretation.

The project is organized privately by Tomas Hurnik (baroque cellist, Associate Cello Principal with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra) with generous support from Creative Communities (Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin). It is the third project on period instruments organized by T. Hurnik in New Zealand (two Concerts Tours in 2010 and 2011). Tomas is currently seeking charitable status for promoting and supporting Baroque music in New Zealand.
