It’s back with a bang! Nostalgia festival returned this summer to a sell out crowd, once again transforming Ferrymead Heritage Park with music, food, performance and festival magic.

This year’s festival held February 20 2016 drew a record crowd of 3,000, solidifying Nostalgia’s status as a mainstay on the New Zealand festival circuit.

As Christchurch basked in a glorious heat wave, festival goers swooned to indie-rock favourites The Phoenix Foundation, with their new album “Give Up Your Dreams’, a barrel-load of genre-bending tunes from the likes of The Eastern, and danced up a storm to Tami Neilson, who put on a brilliant set and won the crowd over with soulful sounds from her new album, and a few choice covers.

Playing host to a rare mash-up of heritage railway and live music, Ferrymead Heritage Park provided the perfect setting for an eco-friendly and inclusive event to suit all ages. From indie music performances and open-air banquets, to food and drink from some of Canterbury’s finest producers, market stalls, and kid-friendly activities (wishing fairies, juggling acts, variety shows), Nostalgia has become the perfect place to introduce the little ones to the festival merry-go-round or kick back with a couple of mates.

True to its collaborative spirit, Nostalgia 2016 was made what it was by our festival collaborators, who went all out to host our guests, and we’re proud to report the day was 100% incident free thanks to them.

Creative cooperation and collaboration is at the heart of Nostalgia and the festival strives to produce, promote and protect social networks, public spaces, art, and sustainability to support such interaction. Locally sourced and home-grown goods dominated the menus, sunscreen stations dotted around the park offered a free dose of SPF, and free drinking water was available to make sure everyone had a good time, even after dancing for too long in the sun. What's more the wider community came together with well over 100 locals involved, from the finest chefs to the most creative artists, making this little gem of a festival the wonder it was and will continue to be. Magic!

Those feeling nostalgic for Nostalgia needn’t worry - it’ll be back in 2017!
