Porcelaintoy Presents: Contrite Elegant Rebel

A lush, intoxicating, musical showcase.

Directed by Rachel Lenart

3-5 March, Bats Theatre

Contrite Elegant Rebel brings together artists across many and varied forms to create a truly
innovative and sensorial musical showcase as part of the Fringe Festival 2011.

For their most ambitious live project to date, the musical nucleus that is Porcelaintoy are joined
by a cabal of 3 dancers, 6 singers, 4 cellists, 2 violists and a multi-media designer to present a
work rich in opulent decadence and bohemian glamour, under the auspicious direction of
Rachel Lenart.

Porcelaintoy is an innovative two-piece band based in Wellington. Combining elements of
indie, downbeat, and glitch. Porcelaintoy is led by singer/composer Elizabeth Judd on guitar
and piano, with Emile De la Rey on electronics. The director of the award-winning Theatre
Militia company, Rachel Lenart, “one of Wellington's most adventurous directors”, explores the
new work of Porcelaintoy in an explosive visual form.

March 2011 sees the album release of their long awaited album also entitled Contrite Elegant
Rebel. These album songs form the basis of what has now become a lush, intoxicating
musical showcase.

Contrite Elegant Rebel orchestrates the spine-chilling theatrical choir, evocative dancers and
haunting string section to highlight and explore the themes and draw out the stories in the
seductive music of Porcelaintoy. The boundaries between film, theatre, music and dance are
blurred and redefined, creating a compelling sensory cocktail/experience for the audience, and
making it a genuine must see in the Fringe Festival calendar.
