Hanako Chatani from Pukekohe High School is this year's winner of the 2011 Te Tuhi Youth Art Awards.  Her prize is to see her artwork reproduced on a giant scale.    Hanako's winning design  is being displayed on a 10m x 5m billboard, to be viewed by 100,000's of motorists on the Southern motorway over the next month.

 Students from over 60 schools in Auckland submitted entries to this year's Te Tuhi Youth Art Award.  Of these students, 4 were selected for a special workshop to develop their ideas further.  The students from McCleans College, Pukekohe High School, Selwyn College and Papakura High school, each submitted one work for consideration by the Te Tuhi judges.   These 4 works are now on exhibition at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts for the public to enjoy.

 "One of the strongest outcomes of the award" says Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts director James McCarthy, " is to see the massive boost in confidence if gives to a young artist and the affirmation of young talent to friends and family. This year's standard has been exceptional and we look forward to next year's entries."

 The Te Tuhi Youth Art Award Finalists Exhibition is now on at Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts, 13 Reeves Rd, Pakuranga.  The awards are presented in association with the Southside Festival.
