METHODIST CHURCH: EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
In 2017 the Methodist Church, 32 Parnell St, was purchased to restore and create an artist’s residency. Its restoration would ensure the building remains respectful to its origins while having a use that acknowledges its presence as part of the Rawene community.
The church hall will be refurbished but remain largely unaltered, while the vestry, a later addition (1922) will be developed as accommodation. We envisage a resident artist, practising any of the creative disciplines, will live and work here and will interact with the community through an exhibition, performance or readings.
A conservation plan, which will ensure restoration takes place with integrity, is soon to be undertaken and while the church is vacant during this time we are inviting expressions of interest from any creative who would like to make use of the building as a workspace. It is currently not suitable as accommodation.
