STAGE TWO PRODUCTIONS presents Sophocles’ Oedipus the King
Thursday 30 May – Saturday 1 June 2013
Centennial Theatre, Auckland Grammar
A city wracked with plague. A murder to be solved. A king grappling with fate.
“Is there a man alive the gods hate more?”
The University of Auckland’s Stage Two Productions present Oedipus the King; the classic Greek tragedy about the vagaries of fate and the struggle of one man to escape his destiny. Featuring 19 of the University of Auckland’s best emerging actors, an original score and an fresh, innovative design team, this production adds a contemporary edge to the classic tale: a provocative and challenging story of endurance that takes the audience to the edge of despair and back again.
“Oedipus is a myth that still looms large in our imaginations as a story we are both revolted and fascinated by. I’m excited about releasing the epic power of a Greek Tragedy.” Artistic Director, James Wenley
