An art auction called Standing with Courage aims to give people with a disability the opportunity to experience what it is like to stand, by raising money to purchase specialist equipment.

After putting out a call for donation of artworks via arts forums and personal networks, organiser Margaret Alden is delighted with the response from artists including Grant Sharman and Bruce Taplan.

She hopes the auction on Friday 24 May will make a significant contribution towards the $8000 needed to purchase the standing frame which will be available to clients of IRIS, a Sandringham based provider of services to people with a disability.

“A frame helps to strengthen the body and assist in the rehabilitation process,” explains Margaret, “It’s about increasing confidence as much as body strength and helping people have a more active role in the community”.

Margaret is no stranger to fundraising in her local community, having established her own organisation We’ll Make Cents to help others fund raise for specific projects or equipment.

The Standing with Courage Art Auction takes place on Friday 24 May 2.30pm – 4pm at IRIS Health, 13 Coyle Street, Sandringham and is open to anyone to attend.
