‘Show Me Shorts’ together with ‘Lithuanian Film Festival in New Zealand’ presents six specially selected films this year - each with a duration of between 6-20 minutes, ensuring that even those with the shortest attention spans are guaranteed to be engaged and captivated.
All selected shorts contain incredibly unique and varying themes. In one, we see a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the beautiful but short life - span of a butterfly. Then follows an awkward yet insightful and humorous exchange between close family, tackling the ever stressful and tedious act of moving house, the inevitable logistical nightmare that ensues.
In one short film, the audience’s attention will move to the beach. We are welcome to witness the tender but somewhat overbearing relationship between mother and daughter. Transpiring then, to an altogether different pace of the film, one set in a limousine. This particular film shines a light on the stark divide between the neoteric world of the young and impressionable with the older and more otherworldly.
The underlying common theme of family and spirituality appears to run throughout these six shorts. This is evident through one such film that captures a respectful exchange between the consecrated and their subject, utilising a modern technological forum in its delivery, which is surprising and clever.
Rounding off the cinematic feast is a welcome relief of spirited and light-hearted humour. With family at its heart, we get to watch the return of the prodigal son (in this case ‘daughter’). With Easter just around the corner, it is the most fitting of times to prepare for the onslaught of family squabbles and triviality!
