Vanilau. Maxwell. Tamaira. In Otaki, 29th March 2014, to play Maoriland film festival closing Concert. Otaki will light those lights and raise that curtain when three of the countries most distinctive, soulful voices and songwriters Warren Maxwell, Dallas Tamaira & Mark Vanilau play an exclusive show to close out the inaugural 2014 Maoriland Film Festival in Otaki.

A celebration of films and filmmakers, the inaugural Maoriland Film Festival will be held in Otaki on the Kapiti Coast over 4 days from the 26th March. Aotearoa’s first and only Indigenous, International film festival, Maoriland will feature films from celebrated Aotearoa filmmakers such as Taika Waititi (Boy/Two Cars One Night), Te Arepa Kahi (Mt Zion), Himiona Grace (The Pa Boys), Mark & Louis (Shopping) & Geoff Murphy (Utu Redux), as well as International films and filmmakers from Australia, USA & Canada.

Closing out this wonderful & diverse festival will be an extra special live performance from a trio spearheaded by NZ artist Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots, Little Bushman, ex FFD). Warren, having composed many a score for some of the most recent Maori feature and short films (The Pa Boys, Strength of Water), will be bringing his unique vocals and instrumentation onstage alongside Dallas Tamaira, who everyone knows as the silky smooth vocalist in Fat Freddy’s Drop and Mark Vanilau, a solo artist in his own right with his distinctive, velveteen voice, he is also a regular member in Dave Dobbyn’s live band.

These three excruciatingly talented musicians seamlessly blend together their own original songs and perform them together in such a way that will touch and heal your soul. “We wanted the collaboration to focus on vocal harmony, reminiscent of Crosby, Stills & Nash but with contemporary elements and original songs from three Antipodean minstrels”. Says Warren Maxwell.

The benchmark has been set high with this esteemed line up and the MFF closing party aims to be an anticipated event, not only within the festival line up, but also for Otaki community’s social calendar!
