Harry wants a BABY. David is more interested in the cute guy who serves him coffee. Blanche is an earth mother with performance ambitions. They’re searching for love in all the wrong places.

Day After Night is a new original New Zealand Musical written and composed by Benjamin Cleaver. It’ s a pop rock musical love story about two gay men-Harry, a late night drag performer, has a dream. He wants a BABY. His partner David can’t think of anything worse.

“With everything going on in the world around gay marriage and the quest for equal rights, and also something in New Zealand legislation regarding the adoption laws, I feel it’s a relevant story to be told now. It’s current.”-Benjamin Cleaver, Writer and Composer

Produced by Theatre of Love, legendary Musical Director Paul Barrett (Tic Tic, Songs for Guys) Choreographer Lydia Zanetti (Sweaty Hearts Productions), and Director/Producer James Wenley (Jailbait, The Who’s Tommy Rock Musical) have joined in a theatrical union to create this relevant spectacular musical showcase starring Kinloch Anstiss (Hairy Maclary) as Harry, Chapman Tripp Nominee Paul Harrop (Rage, Tangiwai) as David, Jess Bates (Nothing Trivial, Fitz Bunny: Lust for Glory) as Blanche supported by Greg Padoa (Sweeney Todd, Wallflower), Romy Hooper (Nothing Trivial, Tape, Closer), Kate Riegel and Alexandra McKellar.

Featuring a catchy, poignant and original musical score including melodies ‘Gay Wedding’, ‘Open Relationship’ and ‘Pretty Girl’, Day After Night is hitting Auckland’s Basement Theatre with camp flair and lots of heart, 18th-29th September, 8pm.

Day After Night is supported by Auckland Council Arts Alive, James Wallace Arts Trust, Get it On! and PledgeMe.co.nz crowdfunders.
