Cringeworthy - The 80s!

20 May 2022 to 11 Jun 2022
Friday 20 May - Saturday 11 June.
This musical theatre experience is a righteous, stellar, fantabulous blast from the past. Feast on contagious Kiwi songs served with big hair dos, a side of spandex and a huge dollop of cheesy comedy.
Event type:
Dance, Music, Theatre
$25 - $54
Circa Theatre
1 Taranaki Street, Te Aro, Wellington

Cringeworthy – The 80s is the brand new sequel to Andrea Sanders’ sell-out hit, Cringeworthy – The 70s that premiered with a sold out season at Circa Theatre in 2019. Cringeworthy – The 80s recreates energetic stylings and arrangements for classic hits. Featuring fabulous music by artists such as Dave Dobbyn, Sharon O’Neil, The Mockers, Dance Exponents, Peking Man the Holiday Makers and more, all delivered by a colourfully costumed cast of excellent singers showcasing 4 part harmonies. Weaving it all together is a wise cracking narrative that reflects upon the way of life, news events, and culture way back when. It’s a light-hearted reflection back to a time when all two TV channels were booming shows such as Shazam and Radio With Pictures, where many of us were introduced to the great bands of the time. And how can we forget the national cringe when presenter Karyn Hay and her strong Kiwi accent first appeared on our screens?

“This lightweight, nostalgic, up-tempo musical cabaret offers a slick antidote to the Covid blues.” - Richard Mays, Theatreview
