Whiria – Ngā Manu Rere 

Pop-up exhibition of Manu Rere 

A special flock of Manu Rere, traditionally made flying kites, lands for their first migrating flight away from their Hokianga nest.

Where:  Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa (New Zealand Maritime Museum), Cnr Quay & Hobson Streets, Viaduct Harbour, Auckland CBD 

 

Auckland Museum Institute presents an introduction to Matariki, Maramataka and Mātauranga 

Dr Dan Hikuroa will talk about and engage in discussion regarding Matariki, its purpose and role in customary and contemporary society, and about how it is situated within the Maramataka - the Māori stella-lunar-ecological calendar.

Matariki on the Waterfront - Tāmaki makaurau 

Matariki on the Waterfront returns to Silo Park once more, promising two days of experiences to invigorate the soul and warm the senses during the cold of winter. See the watefront come alive with a range of Matariki activities including live music, kapa haka, workshops, installations, kai and a place of connection, remembrance and renewal for all.

Matariki Glow Show 2022 

The Glow Show is back with an all-new, giant-scale puppet show for tamariki, educators and whānau. The Glow Show’s magical glow-in-the-dark characters are getting ready to celebrate with you at 40 theatres around Aotearoa.

Taane Mete : Pohūtukawa 

Join renowned choreographer and dancer Taane Mete for his performance conceived especially for Matariki

Ka Pō, Ka Ao 

Rob Ruha joins the ātaahua tones of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra to bring a dynamic celegration of Te Pō the night and Te Ao daylight, alongside the world-famous rangatahi choir Ka Hao.

Matariki Ahunga Nui 

At this free event listen to live waiata, eat kai, shop at te mākete, and keep the tamariki busy making poi and craft inspired by Matariki.

Solacium 

The Human Kind presents an immersive, live music and audiovisual experience designed to saturate your senses by combining live music alongside images expressing the spectrum of human emotion.

Midnight Sun 

A new public artwork by Sara Hughes 

A spectacular, immersive artwork by New Zealand artist Sara Hughes bringing new life to Tauranga’s Willow Street bus shelter from 22 June. The expansive, illuminated outdoor painting creates an ever-changing corridor of warm, coloured light, throughout the day and night. Visit Tauranga City centre to experience the sun that never sets.

Ngā Tohu Toi Mo Ngā o Te Rohe o Tauranga Moana 2022  

Join us at our inaugural annual art awards for descendants of the Tauranga Moana Region to honour the significant achievements of a remarkable group of achievers in a night of excellence, entertainment and community with a creative line up of international calibre.

Kimihia Ngā Whetū o Matariki | Matariki Star Search  

Kids go free at Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne during Matariki weekend! Bring the whānau and join our Matariki Star Search activities. Explore the lush ngahere/forest to discover the stars of Matariki hidden in the valley. FInd all nine whetū/stars, share what you have learned, and collect a treat at the end.

Tīrama Mai 

Its back! Tīrama Mai is a light festival like no other. Created to celebrate Puanga and Matariki, Tīrama Mai is designed to bring light to Ōtautahi during Matariki celebrations. Tīrama Mai is a celebration of Matariki, our people and our landscape.

Ngā Reo Tīoriori 

Collaboration of Māori musicians from Ōtautahi performing jazz, pop and original waiata, all sung in te reo Māori.
