MAP PROJECT
—
This Auckland Pride Festival MAP Project
is showcasing the work of artist Huriana
Kopeke-Te Aho on the central location
at 1 Ponsonby Road as Studio One Toi
Tū continues to provide a space for
artists and art lovers during the seismic
strengthening renovations.
Huriana Kopeke-Te Aho (Tūhoe, Ngāti
Porou, Rongowhakaata, Te Āti Haunuia-
Pāpārangi, Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāi
Tahu, Fale’ula) is a self-taught artist
and illustrator whose work is primarily
influenced by their Māori whakapapa,
takatāpui identity, and political beliefs.
At the centre of their artistic practice is
a deep and fierce aroha/alofa for their
people, and they aim to create imagery
that speaks to the political and social
struggles of their communities.
