Āhua wai brings together new and existing works by Olivia Asher, Megan Brady, Pepi-Joy Gilgen, and Sara Tautuku Orme; four wāhine Māori artists whose practices flow between material, memory, and connection. Each traces a distinct relationship to water, from its physical form to its presence as whakapapa, movement, and life force. Through clay, textile, image, and installation, the works consider how water holds and carries us — how it shapes identity, sustains wairua, and mirrors our shifting states of being.
Together, these artists offer a constellation of perspectives grounded in te ao Māori, where water is both ancestor and teacher. Their practices move with the ebb and pull of awa, wai, and moana, currents of care, transformation, and return.
