Our next exhibition Embraced Impressions by Strahan Clarke, opens on 28 November at Makers Gallery.
Embraced Impressions brings together sentimental reflections on the people, moments and objects that, once held, leave an impression, a one-of-a-kind stamp marked in time.
These vessels exist beyond the roles of functionality; their very surfaces carry stories.
The sentimental nature of these clay storytellers moves through astrological, historical and biographical references, drawing from stars, leaves, constellations and personal narratives.
Strahan Clarke has moved away from the idea of mass production, choosing instead to create bespoke sets for specific purposes, as well as singular one-off pieces.
Preciousness has long been a theme in his practice, at times emphasised, at others intentionally set aside.
In all cases, he seeks an overall sense of quietness, regardless of number, function or surface intention.
