Spring in the arboretum at Waitakaruru is a time of constant change. Trees are vibrant with new leaf and flowers bloom, something new is happening almost everyday. The beauty and fragility of flowers is a subject matter that has intrigued artists for centuries. Many artists have developed individual methods to capture so fleeting a subject matter. Trained in Brazil, Mila works with a keen observation, highlighting the unique qualities of the flowers she is looking to paint. This emphasis on observation is balanced by a freedom of mark making resulting in painting that is fresh and carries the sense of energy we see in beauty that we know will not last for long.
This workshop offers the opportunity to work with Mila as she shares her skills and knowledge. Using pencil to make sketches and observe the subject matter alongside techniques in watercolour, a medium perfectly suited to the delicate nature of spring flowers.
Paints will be supplied. Please see our website for details of other materials.
