Curious what being a theatre technician involves? Have a passion for all things techy? 

 

Te Pou Theatre has partnered with Te Puna Creative Academy to deliver a two day introductory wānanga covering the role and responsibilities of venue technicians in the performing arts industry. 

 

Over two days, the wānanga will cover:

  • A day in the life of a Venue Tech for theatre
  • Industry 101s
  • Theory and practical exercises to help you get an idea of the work involved in the role
  • Applied learning in a theatrical setting with real life cases studies including:
    • Reviewing technical riders and cross checking with venue equipment to get an idea of hires required or alternative equipment to offer
    • Rigging basics 
    • Best practice industry health and safety 
  • On Sunday there will be guest speakers sharing the venue tech experience working at a variety of theatres across Tāmaki

 

If you’ve ever thought about moving into being a venue technician, this two day introductory wānanga is for you.

 

Workshop Details

 

Āhea | When: Rāhoroi 24th & Rātapu 25th Mei 2025, 10am – 3pm (Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th May 2025, 10:00am – 3:00pm)
Kei hea | Where: Te Pou Theatre, 2 Mt Lebanon Lane

Mō wai | For who: Māori performing arts industry, and/or Māori keen to move into this space as a viable career. Please note – this is an introductory wānanga specifically for people with no experience in this area.

Utu | Cost: Free
Roanga | Duration: 5 hours per day, over two days.
