Wrap up your year with an inspiring, hands-on wānanga introducing you to the world of Venue Technicians in the performing arts industry with Te Pou Theatre.

This one-day wānanga is an all-inclusive introduction that will give you a taste of foundational skills on what it takes to be a part of the crew that brings live performance to life. It’s a perfect opportunity to explore new creative pathways for 2026!

Across the day, you’ll learn:

  • A day in the life of a Venue Tech for theatre
  • Industry 101s
  • Theory and practical exercises to help you get an idea of the work involved in the role
  • Applied learning in a theatrical setting with real life cases studies including:
    • Reviewing technical riders and cross checking with venue equipment to get an idea of hires required or alternative equipment to offer
    • Rigging basics
    • Industry best practice/ health and safety
    • Previous Venue Tech interns who can share their experience working at a variety of theatre across Tāmaki Makaurau
