Join us on 28 November at 5:30pm for the opening of Jennie de Groot's latest exhibition; It's All Fun And Games Until Somebody Loses An Eye.
Jennie positions the viewer within the affective terrain of adolescence: a phase of transition so slow it can feel invisible, yet so emotionally saturated it becomes monumental. Referencing her own pre-digital experience of adolescence of the 80s, the exhibition unfolds across two temporal zones: day and night. Day is bright, performative, and rule-bound—tennis courts, swimming pools, bodies watched and measured, actions keenly observed. Night, by contrast, is intimate, uncertain, and hints at danger—where the edges blur and the air thickens with invisible risk.
