This show will be a lush sample of largely unseen works completed over the past year or two that are all based on the still life genre.  You will see several series that explore colour, composition, brushwork and form, as well as dive into some more contemporary visions of still life with strong symbolist narratives.

I am excited to say this will be my first time curating and running my own exhibition.  I will be working in the gallery all week and look forward to meeting those of you who can come down and have a look.  There will be an opening night celebration, if you would like to recieve an invite to this event please email me. Holding this show is a big deal for me, it is the first time I have gathered my strength to exhibit a collection of works after my last solo show ‘Glass Underfoot’ the regional gallery Whirinaki Whare Taonga.  A lot has happened in that time and its been a rough road to be honest.  The name of this show is ‘Still Standing’ which is a nod to the resiliance I have needed to draw upon as I have navigated becoming an ambulatory wheelchair user, and a reminder that despite what life throws at me, I am still standing, and still creating.

Jonette Murray is a self taught disabled artist who works primarily ‘from life’ in her Wellington studio.  She is a passionate full time artist with numerous sales nationally and internationally, holds frequent solo shows, participates in group shows and has been a finalist in several major art awards in New Zealand.
